Crusoe to Acquire $400 Million in AMD AI Chips for New Data Center
Crusoe is set to purchase approximately $400 million worth of AI chips from Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), according to Reuters. The acquisition involves around 13,000 MI355X chips, which will be housed in a new U.S. data center designed to support AI model development and application execution.
The facility, expected to be operational by fall, will utilize a liquid cooling system to optimize performance. Crusoe's data centers are specifically built to accommodate AI chips, offering enhanced performance over traditional designs. The company employs pre-fabricated components to expedite construction, similar to pre-fabricated homes.
This move positions Crusoe as a competitive player in the AI cloud infrastructure market, providing an alternative to the Nvidia-dominated landscape. The AMD MI355X chips, with their high-bandwidth memory, are particularly suited for AI inference tasks, aligning with Crusoe's strategy to offer robust AI infrastructure solutions.
