BGI-Research and Zhejiang Lab Unveil Genos Genomic Foundation Model at ICG-20
More than 100 scientists from 19 countries gathered in Hangzhou, China, for the 20th Annual Meeting of the International Conference on Genomics (ICG-20), where BGI-Research and Zhejiang Lab announced in a press release the launch of Genos, an open-source, human-centric genomic foundation model.
The model, which contains over 10 billion parameters, is designed to help individuals interpret their own genomic data and support advancements in clinical disease diagnosis and personalized medicine. The unveiling took place during the conference’s opening session, which focused on the integration of omics and artificial intelligence across life sciences.
Speakers at the event included Professor Huanming Yang of BGI Group, who emphasized global collaboration in genomics, and Dr. George Church of Harvard Medical School, who discussed the latest progress in combining omics and AI research. Dr. Jian Wang of Zhejiang Lab highlighted the role of open-source innovation in scientific discovery, while Dr. Hefeng Huang of Zhejiang University presented research on using omics technologies for early cancer prevention.
The ICG-20 meeting marked two decades of international collaboration in genomics, continuing its mission inspired by the Human Genome Project to promote shared scientific progress in the field.
