Axiom Study Highlights AI Competency Gap in Legal Teams
Axiom Global Inc. has revealed a significant competency gap in legal teams as they rapidly adopt AI technologies, with only 20% achieving AI maturity, announced in a press release. The study, conducted by InsightDynamo, surveyed 607 senior in-house leaders across eight countries.
Despite a 33% increase in AI budgets, many legal departments are still in the early stages of AI adoption, with two-thirds stuck in proof-of-concept phases. This has led to a widening performance gap between AI leaders and laggards. The study also highlights that while legal teams recognize the risks associated with AI, fewer than 40% have implemented basic safeguards like usage policies or staff training.
Moreover, the research indicates that law firms are not passing on the benefits of AI to clients, with 58% not reducing rates and 33% charging more for AI-assisted work. The findings underscore the urgent need for legal departments to find expert partners to accelerate AI maturity and manage risks effectively.
