Apple Nears Deal to Acquire Prompt AI’s Team and Technology

October 11, 2025
Apple is reportedly close to acquiring the team and technology from computer vision startup Prompt AI, which developed the Seemour home security camera app. Prompt will retire the app and delete user data as part of the transition.

Apple is in late-stage talks to acquire engineers and technology from computer vision startup Prompt AI, reports CNBC. The deal would include the 11-person team and intellectual property behind Prompt’s Seemour app, which adds advanced detection and description capabilities to home security cameras.

Prompt’s leadership informed employees of the pending transaction at an all-hands meeting, stating that some staff may join Apple Inc., while others will receive reduced pay and be encouraged to apply for open positions at the company. Investors are expected to receive partial returns from the deal. The startup’s Seemour app will be retired, and users will be notified that their data will be deleted and privacy protected.

Founded in 2023 by AI researchers Tete Xiao and Trevor Darrell, Prompt AI had attracted interest from other companies, including Elon Musk’s xAI and Neuralink. Despite technical success, the company struggled with its business model. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Apple’s computer vision capabilities, likely benefiting its HomeKit smart home products and related AI features.
