Anthropic Manager Drops Coding Interviews From Team Hiring

Oct 29, 2026
Anthropic engineering manager Felix Rieseberg dropped coding interviews for his team, writing that Claude is now better at them than candidates.

Anthropic engineering manager Felix Rieseberg has stopped giving coding interviews to candidates for his team, he wrote in a blog post on 27 October. "There's no more point in giving you a little React challenge than there is in quizzing people about assembly; Claude is now better at both," he wrote.

Rieseberg has led engineering for Claude.ai, Claude Code Desktop and Cowork, The Next Web reported. He called small coding challenges "a weak but useful predictor" that no longer separates his most effective builders from the rest.

He said newer engineers now overtake more experienced colleagues: "Hunger beats tenure." As an example, he said two relatively new engineers built a graphical interface prototype for Claude Code over a weekend, and the first public version shipped about eight days later. He has not yet worked out how to interview for people who build well with AI. For now, he scans résumés and portfolios for small prototypes.
