Anthropic Plans $61.5 Billion Valuation Employee Share Buyback
Anthropic is preparing to execute its first employee share buyback, valuing the company at $61.5 billion, according to The Information. This initiative matches the valuation from its recent $3.5 billion Series E funding round. The buyback will allow current and former employees to cash out some of their shares, providing liquidity while helping Anthropic retain key talent.
Founded by former OpenAI executives, Anthropic has rapidly increased its valuation from $15 billion in March 2024 to over $60 billion by the end of the year. The company, backed by major investors like Amazon and Google, has seen its annualized revenue grow to approximately $1 billion. Anthropic's chatbot, Claude, competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT, particularly appealing to businesses prioritizing safety and transparency.
