Anthropic Commits 5% of Shares to Public Benefit Fund

Anthropic said in an announcement it will commit 5% of its shares to the new Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval. Its board may add another 2% for every 50% increase in the company's value above a set baseline.

The fund will operate as a wholly owned LLC, allowing it to make donations to nonprofits or direct distributions to specific populations. Anthropic said none of the equity held by the fund will support lobbying or political giving in the United States or other countries.

Combined with earlier equity pledges from Anthropic's founders and employees, roughly 20% of the company's shares will be dedicated to public benefit purposes. Anthropic plans to publish more details about the fund's governance and valuation milestones in the coming months.
