Air Space Intelligence Wins $875 Million FAA Contract to Modernize National Airspace System

June 23, 2026
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded Air Space Intelligence a 12-year, $875 million contract to implement AI-based software systems that will modernize the National Airspace System and improve air traffic management efficiency.

Air Space Intelligence has been awarded a 12-year, $875 million contract by the Federal Aviation Administration to modernize the National Airspace System, announced in a press release. The contract covers deployment of two core software programs: Flow Management Data and Services (FMDS) and Strategic Management of Airspace, Routing, and Trajectories (SMART).

According to the FAA, FMDS and SMART will provide air traffic controllers with modern, data driven tools to forecast demand, balance capacity, and manage traffic proactively. The systems are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and strengthen system resilience while maintaining safety standards.

Under the agreement, ASI will integrate operational data, predictive modeling, and decision support applications into a unified platform. The FAA has planned the initial operational deployment of SMART for fall 2026.

ASI’s Flyways AI platform, which is already in use by major U.S. airlines and the Department of War, will serve as the foundation for the new FAA systems. The company stated that the technology has been tested at scale in both commercial and defense aviation environments, supporting flight routing, air traffic management, and mission planning.
