ABB and NVIDIA Collaborate on Next-Generation AI Data Centers
Zurich-based ABB has announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to develop next-generation data centers designed for artificial intelligence workloads. The partnership will focus on creating high-efficiency, scalable power delivery systems to meet the growing energy demands of AI infrastructure.
ABB will support NVIDIA’s planned introduction of 800-volt architecture, which allows faster and less energy-intensive power transfer. The company stated that about 40% of its electrification research is focused on areas critical to future data centers, including electrical architectures, protection devices, direct current distribution, and cooling technologies.
The announcement highlighted that global data center power demand is expected to rise sharply, from 80 gigawatts in 2024 to around 220 gigawatts by 2030. ABB also noted that total capital expenditure for the sector could exceed $1 trillion by the end of the decade, reflecting the rapid expansion driven by AI adoption.
