The American Arbitration Association–International Centre for Dispute Resolution (AAA-ICDR) has made its AI arbitrator available for two-party, documents-only construction cases. The system combines AI speed with human oversight to ensure fairness and accuracy in arbitration outcomes.

The American Arbitration Association–International Centre for Dispute Resolution has made its AI arbitrator available for use in two-party, documents-only construction cases, announced in a press release. The system is designed to improve the speed and efficiency of arbitration while maintaining human oversight and legal accuracy.

The AI arbitrator uses a human-in-the-loop framework where parties first review and validate the AI's understanding of their submissions. Human arbitrators then oversee, revise if necessary, and authorize the final award before issuance. This layered review process aims to preserve fairness, transparency, and due process.

Initially trained on AAA construction awards and refined using expert-labeled examples, the AI arbitrator will later expand to other industries and case types. Future updates will address multi-party proceedings, cross-border cases, and cultural considerations, with phased testing to ensure reliability.

Participation in the AI arbitrator process is voluntary and opt-in. Cases outside the current scope will continue under the traditional AAA-ICDR arbitration framework.
