Vention Opens Montreal Physical AI Lab for Manufacturing
Vention announced in a press release the opening of a Physical AI lab in Montreal focused on robotic manipulation for industrial goods, electronics and automotive production. Jimmy Li leads the lab, with advice from Joelle Pineau, Chief AI Officer at Cohere.
The lab combines industrial data collection, robot control, motion planning, computer vision, vision foundation models, learning from demonstrations and reinforcement learning. Its researchers can use data and feedback from Vention systems deployed across thousands of manufacturers, including 90 Fortune 500 companies.
The lab developed GRIIP, which Vention launched in February 2026. The software handles scene digitalization, object segmentation, pose estimation, grasp selection and collision free motion planning. Vention plans to release a public software development kit for engineering teams.
The lab currently employs eight people and is recruiting for more than 16 positions in robot control, simulation and Physical AI research. Vention said revenue tied to Physical AI increased 400% over the past year.
