US job postings requiring AI skills exceeded 320,000 in August 2026, while technology occupation employment increased by 86,000 workers.

CompTIA said in a press release that active US job postings requiring AI skills exceeded 320,000 in August 2026, an increase of 4.5% from July. Technology occupation employment across the economy increased by 86,000 workers during the month.

Technology companies reduced staffing by about 14,700 technical and nontechnical positions. Across all industries, employers had nearly 600,000 active technology occupation postings, with newly advertised roles accounting for 42% of the total.

Hiring increased for technology support, infrastructure, project management, and cybersecurity roles. Professional, scientific, and technical services, manufacturing, and administrative support services generated the most new technology postings. The analysis used data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and Lightcast.
