US AI Skills Job Postings Reach Nearly 350,000 in September
Active US job postings requiring AI skills rose to 349,821 in September, extending the increase recorded in August, CompTIA said in a press release. The total increased by 32,327 from August and was about 282% higher than in May 2024.
Employers posted 272,040 new openings for IT occupations during September. Active IT postings reached 625,633, their highest level in more than three years. New postings increased 16% from September 2025, while active postings rose 22.4%.
Software developers and engineers led demand with 47,598 new openings, up 8.3% from August. Active postings for dedicated AI and machine learning job titles reached 13,636, nearly three times the May 2024 level.
Despite the increase in postings, technology sector employment declined by an estimated 10,350 positions in September. Employment in technology occupations across all industries fell by about 6,000, while the unemployment rate for technology workers rose to 3.3%.
