Tencent Names 50 Global Finalists for CarbonX 2.0 Climate Tech Program
Tencent announced in a press release the selection of 50 finalists from 12 countries for its CarbonX 2.0 program, an initiative designed to advance next-generation climate technologies. The finalists were chosen from over 660 applicants across 54 regions and will compete for a share of 200 million RMB (approximately 28 million USD) in catalytic funding.
The CarbonX 2.0 program supports projects in four key areas: carbon dioxide removal (CDR), industrial decarbonization, carbon capture and utilization, and long-duration energy storage (LDES). Pilot projects are planned in Kenya, the Maldives, and Serbia to test scalable and cost-effective solutions for CO₂ reduction and renewable energy storage.
The winners, to be announced in early 2026, will receive grants, technical resources, and expert guidance to deploy their technologies in real-world environments. The announcement was made during the CarbonX Summit 2025 in Shenzhen, which gathered researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to discuss collaborative approaches to global climate innovation.
