Susan Wojcicki Foundation Launches to Advance Early Detection of Lung Cancer
The Susan Wojcicki Foundation has launched to accelerate progress in detecting and preventing lung cancer, announced in a press release. The foundation was established with $150 million in founding support from the Troper and Wojcicki families and additional multi-million dollar commitments for first-year programs and long-term growth.
Among the initial supporters is Google.org, which will help apply AI to identify lung cancer risk and enable earlier detection. Melinda French Gates and Salesforce Inc. also contributed funding at launch. The organization will collaborate with YouTube and YouTube Health to expand awareness of lung cancer across diverse communities.
The foundation is led by a board that includes Susan Wojcicki’s sisters Janet and Anne Wojcicki and her husband Dennis Troper. It is supported by a scientific advisory committee focused on clinical research, diagnostics, and emerging technologies, along with patient and creator advisory councils.
Two new initiatives were also announced. Brown University and Brown University Health Cancer Institute will partner with the foundation to establish a multi-site centralized lung cancer biorepository focused on early-stage and screening-ineligible populations. The International Agency for Research on Cancer will conduct research to develop a blood-based test to identify non-smokers at high risk of lung cancer.
