Renew Biotechnologies Publishes NeuroLens Research on Blood Biomarkers
Renew Biotechnologies has published peer reviewed research in Frontiers in Neurology on its NeuroLens blood biomarker platform, the company announced in a press release. The study reports that native DNA methylation analysis can identify neuron associated circulating DNA signatures in blood samples from people with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The research describes a human brain methylation reference atlas covering neuronal and glial cell types, along with classifiers trained to connect plasma DNA methylation patterns with specific brain cell types. Across 137 blood samples, the study identified signatures linked to cortical neurons in Alzheimer's disease, dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease, and spinal motor neurons in ALS.
Renew said multivariate models using these neuronal signatures reached disease discrimination results with area under the curve values above 0.85. The study used nanopore sequencing, which preserves native DNA and supports methylation profiling and sequence analysis from the same dataset.
The findings support further work on NeuroLens, Renew's blood based circulating DNA methylation platform. The company said it has processed more than 2,000 patient samples since the study and currently offers NeuroLens as a Research Use Only product for biomarker and translational research.
