Sophia Space Selects Apex to Support Orbital Computing Demo Mission

June 23, 2026
Sophia Space has chosen Apex to supply a satellite bus for a 2027 demonstration mission that will test its TILE orbital computing modules in real time.

Sophia Space Inc. has selected Apex to provide a satellite bus for a 2027 demonstration mission that will test Sophia Space's TILE (Thermal Integrated LEO Edge) computing modules. The collaboration was announced in a press release from the companies.

Apex will supply its Nova bus platform, which will host Sophia Space’s orbital compute modules designed to process data directly in orbit. The mission aims to demonstrate real time edge computing capabilities for enterprise, government, and defense customers.

Sophia Space stated that the partnership will allow satellites to process and act on data as it is generated, reducing the need for large data transfers to ground stations. Apex said its Nova platform offers a scalable approach to help customers move from prototype technology to operational spacecraft.

The companies described the project as a step toward enabling autonomous computing hubs in orbit, supporting applications such as Earth observation, national defense, and disaster response.
