Sera Prognostics Joins ARPA-H Program to Develop Point of Care Birth Diagnostic
Sera Prognostics has joined a research collaboration led by University of California San Diego and Allegro MicroSystems, supported by up to 10.4 million dollars from ARPA-H. The goal is to create a point of care diagnostic test that improves safety during labor and delivery, announced in a press release.
The project is part of ARPA-H's Making Obstetrics Care Smart program and focuses on developing a diagnostic tool that can evaluate the risk of low fetal oxygen levels, or fetal hypoxia, using a small maternal blood sample. The test aims to provide clinicians with timely and objective data to support intervention decisions.
Sera Prognostics will contribute its expertise in protein biomarker discovery and validation to identify biomarker signatures linked to placental dysfunction, fetal stress, or hypoxia risk. The research team plans to integrate these biomarkers into a rapid testing platform designed for use during childbirth.
The collaboration seeks to advance maternal and neonatal care by enabling more precise, data supported decision making during labor.
