Samsung and SoftBank Partner on AI-RAN and 6G Research

October 27, 2025
Samsung Electronics and SoftBank Corp. have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on developing AI-based radio access network technologies and next-generation 6G communications.

Samsung Electronics and SoftBank Corp. have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly research next-generation communications technologies, including 6G and AI-based radio access network (AI-RAN) systems, announced in a press release.

The collaboration will focus on four areas: 6G, AI for RAN, AI and RAN, and Large Telecom Model (LTM). Both companies plan to identify new use cases, develop core technologies, and demonstrate their effectiveness. The research will explore how AI can optimize wireless networks, integrate workloads between AI and base stations, and improve network efficiency and user experience.

Under the AI for RAN concept, the partners aim to apply artificial intelligence to automate and enhance radio network performance. They are also considering the use of generative AI within telecommunications networks as part of their research. The initiative aligns with ongoing global efforts toward 6G standardization, including studies on new frequency bands such as the 7GHz spectrum.

Samsung’s Advanced Communications Research Center will lead the project and plans to host the Silicon Valley Future Wireless Summit later this year to discuss AI-RAN research with industry and academic partners.
