PerturbAI Emerges from Stealth with 8-Million-Cell In Vivo CRISPR Atlas

March 18, 2026
PerturbAI has launched from stealth, unveiling an 8-million-cell in vivo CRISPR atlas developed with NVIDIA, the Allen Institute for Brain Science, and 10x Genomics, marking the largest causal genomics dataset generated in living tissue.

San Francisco-based PerturbAI has launched from stealth, unveiling what it calls the world’s largest in vivo CRISPR atlas, announced in a press release. The dataset spans eight million brain-wide cells and was created in collaboration with NVIDIA, the Allen Institute for Brain Science, and 10x Genomics.

The atlas maps the effects of thousands of genetic perturbations across hundreds of neuronal cell types in the mouse brain, offering a large-scale resource for understanding gene function in living tissue. PerturbAI’s in vivo CRISPR platform measures gene activity within intact organs, capturing biological circuitry instead of isolated cell states.

According to the company, the dataset enables a systems-level view of gene function and supports the development of AI models capable of predicting biological responses across diverse cellular contexts. The data and accompanying manuscript are available through PerturbAI’s blog, Hugging Face, and the NVIDIA AI Blueprint for Single-Cell Analysis.

PerturbAI said it will use the platform and its causal AI models to advance therapeutics targeting complex metabolic and chronic diseases. The company completed an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round in the third quarter of 2025.
