OpenAI Foundation Gives UNC Lineberger $40 Million for Cancer Vaccine Research
UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center received $40 million from the OpenAI Foundation to improve personalized cancer vaccines, according to an announcement from UNC Health. Researchers will use clinical data to train AI models that can identify stronger cancer cell targets for vaccines.
The team will analyze deidentified tumor tissue and immune cells from hundreds of patients across three biobanks. The resulting methods will help researchers select tumor antigens for personalized vaccine therapies.
Researchers will also compare several vaccine formulations in clinical trials involving breast cancer that is triple negative. UNC plans to make its findings available to cancer researchers and oncologists worldwide through the foundation's Public Data for Health program.
