Nuvei and Visa Complete First In-Agent Payment and Outline Agentic Commerce Strategy

July 03, 2026
Nuvei has completed a live in-agent payment proof of concept with Visa and partners across Europe, marking a step toward merchant-led agentic payments. The test allowed a merchant’s AI agent to initiate and complete a purchase using Visa’s network without redirecting to an external payment flow.

Nuvei has completed a live agentic commerce proof of concept with Visa, Arvato Systems, and fashion brand Kings and Priests, announced in a press release. The test demonstrated an AI agent completing a purchase within the merchant’s own interface, with multiple issuers across Europe settling payments over Visa networks using tokenized Visa credentials under shopper-defined spending limits.

The transaction validated that purchase initiation, authorization, and payment could occur inside a merchant’s own AI agent instead of through external payment pages. The project, called Nuvei Agentic, provides a protocol-agnostic layer for any AI agent to execute payments.

The proof of concept involved issuing partners including Alpha Bank, Piraeus Bank, Bank Leumi, CAL, MAX, and Bank of Cyprus. According to Visa Europe’s head of product and solutions, the initiative applies existing capabilities such as tokenization and network-level controls to support agent-initiated payments.

Nuvei plans to make the foundational features of its Agentic Payments platform available in the second half of 2026. These will include protocol compatibility, Know Your Agent identity verification and risk scoring, and a developer sandbox, built on Nuvei’s existing payment infrastructure.
