The New York Times rolls out AI recipe customization tool
The New York Times is gradually rolling out an AI tool that lets Cooking subscribers modify recipes, according to a Times Insider article. The tool is currently available to a large portion of subscribers using the NYT Cooking iOS app, with wider access planned.
Cooking users had long asked to measure ingredients by weight, double or halve recipes and substitute ingredients they don't have. The Times said its team could not have converted more than 23,000 recipes by hand, so it turned to AI. So far, most requests to the new tool are for ingredient substitutions.
The company is monitoring the tool's speed and how subscribers use it. Human editors remain responsible for the recipes and related editorial content.
