Meta Explores AI Partnerships with Google and OpenAI

August 31, 2025
Meta is considering partnerships with Google and OpenAI to enhance AI features in its applications, while continuing to develop its own models.

Meta is exploring potential partnerships with Google and OpenAI to enhance the artificial intelligence capabilities across its suite of applications. Discussions have focused on integrating Google's Gemini model and OpenAI's models to improve the conversational and text-based responses of Meta AI, the company's primary chatbot.

These partnerships are seen as temporary measures to bolster Meta's AI offerings while the company continues to develop its own models, such as the upcoming Llama 5. Meta has already incorporated external AI models into some internal tools, allowing employees to use Anthropic models for coding assistance.

Meta's strategy involves a combination of building its own world-class AI models, collaborating with other leading companies, and open-sourcing technology. This approach is part of a broader effort to maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The company has invested heavily in its new AI division, Meta Superintelligence Labs, co-led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, to drive these initiatives forward.
