Meta Disputes Claim That Muse Read Private Messages Without Permission

Meta Platforms, Inc. disputes a claim that its Muse AI agent read a user's private messages without permission, according to TechCrunch. Meta communications vice president Andy Stone said the Messages integration in the Muse Mac app is optional and requires users to enable both Full Disk Access and the Messages connector.

Meta Superintelligence Labs executive David Singleton said access requires three separate permission steps. Users must grant Full Disk Access through macOS Settings and then select a level of Messages access. The process also restarts the Muse app.

Journalist Jason Aten said Muse read his messages while Full Disk Access was disabled. He said Muse attributed the access to synced device notifications. Singleton rejected that explanation and said the AI gave an incorrect account of what happened.
