Meta Acquires AI Audio Startup WaveForms
Meta Platforms has acquired WaveForms AI, a startup focused on developing artificial intelligence capable of understanding and mimicking emotions in audio, according to The Information. This acquisition is part of Meta's ongoing efforts to enhance its AI capabilities, particularly in the realm of audio technology.
WaveForms AI, co-founded by Alexis Conneau and Coralie Lemaitre, was established just eight months ago and had already secured $40 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz. Conneau, who previously worked on audio research at Meta and OpenAI, and Lemaitre, who has a background in business strategy at Google, will join Meta's Superintelligence Labs.
This acquisition follows Meta's recent purchase of another voice AI startup, PlayAI, as the company continues to bolster its AI talent and capabilities. The integration of WaveForms AI into Meta's operations is expected to support the development of more advanced AI-powered audio solutions.
