Meta Plans $10 Billion Investment in Scale AI
Meta Platforms is reportedly in discussions to invest over $10 billion in the artificial intelligence startup Scale AI, according to Bloomberg. This potential investment would mark Meta's largest external funding in AI to date. The deal, however, is not yet finalized and terms may still change.
Scale AI, founded in 2016, provides data labeling services crucial for training machine-learning models. The company has become a significant player in the generative AI sector, with clients including Microsoft and OpenAI. Scale AI was last valued at approximately $14 billion in 2024, with expectations to reach a valuation of $25 billion.
This move by Meta comes as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the AI industry, following a strategy that has primarily focused on in-house model development. The investment in Scale AI could provide Meta with access to exclusive datasets, enhancing its competitive edge against rivals like Microsoft and OpenAI.
