Melio Launches Autonomous B2B Payment Network for Small Businesses

June 18, 2026
Melio has introduced an autonomous payment network that enables small businesses to pay suppliers directly through their accounts receivable systems without requiring supplier onboarding. The system uses agent technology to automate payments and handle remittance data.

Melio announced in a press release the launch of an autonomous payment network for small and medium businesses. The new system allows buyers to pay suppliers directly through their accounts receivable systems without requiring suppliers to join a separate portal or network.

The network uses agent technology that logs into supplier billing and receivable systems, executes payments using each supplier’s preferred method, and returns structured remittance data automatically. The agents draw on Melio’s historical payment intelligence and automation infrastructure to complete these transactions.

According to the company, the network has already processed more than 30,000 payments with over 100 million dollars in annualized volume. Melio processes more than 30 billion dollars in total annual payment volume, with a growing share now eligible for agent-based execution.

Melio, a subsidiary of Xero, serves nearly 100,000 U.S. businesses with accounts payable, receivable, and cash flow management tools. It continues to operate as a standalone platform while leveraging Xero’s scale and partnerships with financial institutions and software providers.
