Matey Secures $7.5M to Expand Legal AI for Criminal Defense
Matey has raised $7.5 million in seed funding to expand its AI platform designed for criminal defense, announced in a press release. The funding round was led by Timespan Ventures, with participation from Neo and Streamlined Ventures.
Matey's CrimD platform is already in use by public defenders, law firms, and government agencies across the United States. It helps legal teams efficiently process large volumes of discovery data, transcribe digital evidence, and prepare for trials. The platform is noted for its ability to save significant time and costs, offering a 90% reduction in discovery review time and over $40,000 in cost savings per case.
The new funding will support the expansion of Matey's product suite, hiring in engineering and go-to-market teams, and strengthening partnerships with criminal defense organizations. Matey also plans to collaborate with universities and bar associations to ensure broader access to its platform for under-resourced defenders.
