Johns Hopkins Patient Data Exposed Through Unapproved AI Tool
More than 3,000 patients of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center had health information exposed after an employee uploaded a spreadsheet to a public AI tool the hospital had not approved, The Baltimore Banner reported, citing a Johns Hopkins news release.
The spreadsheet, uploaded in late September, covered 3,182 patients who visited the centre from May through September. It included their providers, admission dates, treatment, medications, account numbers and medical record numbers, but no Social Security numbers or financial accounts.
Johns Hopkins said the employee removed the prompt, thread and document from the tool, and it asked the tool's unnamed parent company to delete the data. Patients began receiving notification letters last week and are being offered 12 months of free credit monitoring.
