iyO Secures Litigation Funding from Omni Bridgeway in Case Against OpenAI
iyO has partnered with Omni Bridgeway to finance its ongoing federal trademark and trade secret litigation against OpenAI, Sam Altman, Jony Ive, and others, announced in a press release. The disclosure was filed under the Northern District of California's local rules identifying Omni Bridgeway as the litigation funder.
The case, filed in June 2025, involves claims of trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation following OpenAI's use of the "io" name. A temporary restraining order was issued in June 2025 and upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in December 2025. In March 2026, iyO expanded the case to include trade secret claims under both California and federal law.
On April 23, 2026, U.S. District Judge Trina L. Thompson granted iyO a preliminary injunction, finding the company likely to succeed on its trademark claim and at risk of irreparable harm. The litigation continues under case number 25-cv-04861-TLT in the Northern District of California.
