Quebec Parties Join AI Conduct Code Before October Election

Four Quebec political parties have joined a responsible AI use code for the October 5 provincial election. The code asks parties to avoid misleading AI content and follow transparency, governance, and awareness practices.

Four Quebec political parties have joined a code of conduct for responsible AI use in politics ahead of the province's October 5 general election, the groups announced in a press release. The code was developed by IVADO and CEIMIA.

The Coalition avenir Québec, Parti libéral du Québec, Parti Québécois, and Québec solidaire have signed on to the code. The parties agreed to use AI in transparent and responsible ways, including by not using it to create or share misleading content that could confuse voters.

The code is built around four principles: transparency, responsible use, security and governance, and awareness and prevention. IVADO and CEIMIA said they will support the parties with training, awareness activities, and tools such as a guide for marking AI use from Université Laval.
