Toronto Launches AI Permit Pre Check With Clariti

Toronto has launched a residential building permit pre check tool using Clariti's CivCheck platform to flag missing documents, incomplete information, and certain code or zoning issues before submission.

The City of Toronto announced in a press release that it has launched Building Permit Application Pre Check, using Clariti's CivCheck platform to help applicants identify issues before submitting residential building permit applications.

The pilot gives applicants real time feedback on missing documents, incomplete information, and some zoning and Ontario Building Code issues within the pilot scope. Each finding includes a citation to the related requirement so applicants can address or explain flagged items before submission.

City staff will continue to make all permit decisions. CivCheck provides guidance only, and the city said the tool does not approve, refuse, or delay permits. Use of the tool is voluntary and does not change Toronto's formal application or review requirements.

Clariti said similar use of CivCheck in Honolulu saved applicants more than 40 days per permit on average, with residential permits reaching decisions 55% faster than applications that did not use the platform.
