Huawei Supports Yunnan Power Grid with New SPN Deployment

May 07, 2026
Huawei is partnering with Yunnan Power Grid to deploy a new SPN-based carrier network across 16 cities in southwest China, improving bandwidth, reliability, and maintenance efficiency for the region's power infrastructure.

Huawei is supporting Yunnan Power Grid in building a new generation of high speed SPN-based carrier network across 16 cities in southwest China, announced in a press release. The project aims to modernize the province's power communication infrastructure and strengthen digital transformation under China's 14th and 15th Five Year Plans.

Following a pilot in 2022, the SPN network has evolved from a technical trial to a standard architecture across Yunnan province. The system increases access bandwidth to 1 Gbit per second at substations and power plants, while aggregation and core layers can scale up to 100 Gbit per second. It also provides high precision 10 Mbit per second connections for applications such as video monitoring and remote control.

The upgrade has improved operational efficiency. In Qujing Electric Distribution Bureau, inspection time was reduced from 30 minutes to 3 minutes and full maintenance time from more than seven hours to 21 minutes. Site visits dropped by nearly half within six months due to earlier fault detection.

Huawei's SPN solution supports real time SLA monitoring, fault detection within minutes, and flexible routing for IPv4 and IPv6. It also enables integration of power generation, grid, load, and storage systems. The network is designed for long term scalability, allowing upgrades from 25 Gbit per second to 400 Gbit per second without major infrastructure changes.
