Getty Images and Perplexity have entered a global multi-year licensing deal that allows the AI startup to use Getty’s editorial and creative images in its search and discovery tools, integrating Getty’s API for improved visual content and attribution.

Getty Images and Perplexity have signed a global multi-year licensing agreement, announced in a press release, giving the AI company rights to display Getty’s editorial and creative images across its search and discovery tools.

The deal integrates Getty’s API technology into Perplexity’s AI workflows, providing access to high-quality visuals and improving image attribution. Perplexity will also enhance its platform to include image credits and source links to promote legal use of licensed content.

Nick Unsworth, Vice President of Strategic Development at Getty Images, said the partnership will help ensure proper attribution of contributors’ work while enhancing Perplexity’s user experience. Jessica Chan, Head of Content and Publisher Partnerships at Perplexity, added that the collaboration emphasizes accuracy and transparency in AI-powered discovery.

The agreement follows increased industry scrutiny over how AI systems use copyrighted visual materials, with Getty continuing to focus on partnerships that ensure lawful and credited image use.
