FrontierGen Analyzes Texas Basins for AI Data Center Potential
FrontierGen has released a white paper titled "Barrels to Megawatts," which evaluates Texas' major shale basins for their potential to support AI data centers. The study, announced in a press release, compares the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville basins based on transmission capacity, natural-gas supply, fiber infrastructure, and legal considerations.
The analysis identifies Texas as a prime location for AI data centers due to its extensive infrastructure and favorable policies. The Eagle Ford basin scored highest in the study, with a 21/25 rating, indicating strong grid capacity and gas supply. Haynesville followed with a 16/25 score, noted for its stable gas supply and fiber infrastructure, while the Permian basin scored 15/25, primarily due to its abundant fuel resources but current grid constraints.
The report underscores Texas' strategic advantage in hosting AI data centers, thanks to its dense network of pipelines and significant capital investment in energy infrastructure. This positions the state as a key player in the rapidly growing AI sector, with the potential for large-scale deployments in the near future.
