Filevine Adds Citation Checks to LOIS Legal Research

Filevine announced in a press release a new citator and hallucination checking features for LOIS Legal Research. The tools are designed to check whether cited cases exist, whether quotes are accurate, and whether opinions support the claims made in a legal brief.

The citator reads case law and shows whether a holding remains good law. Filevine said it can also flag negative treatment that other citation checking tools may miss.

LOIS assigns a status to each citation and flags unverified cases before filing. Filevine said its legal team tested LOIS against 68 federal filings that courts had already sanctioned, checking 2,073 citations and confirming 174 severe errors.

The company also said LOIS found all 14 silent negative treatments in a case set, while Westlaw KeyCite and Lexis Shepard's found none. Filevine plans a live demonstration of the features on September 10.
