Equinix Opens AI-Ready Data Center in Chennai

Equinix has launched its first International Business Exchange data center in Chennai, India, marking a significant expansion in the region. The facility, CN1, is designed to support AI and digital services.

Equinix has announced the opening of its first International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Chennai, India, announced in a press release. The new facility, named CN1, is located in Siruseri, Tamil Nadu, and is interconnected with Equinix's existing Mumbai campus, which includes three IBX data centers.

With an initial investment of $69 million, CN1 will provide 800 cabinets of capacity in its first phase, eventually supporting up to 4,250 cabinets. The data center is engineered for high reliability with a 99.999% uptime and features Equinix's interconnection services, including Equinix Fabric, which facilitates hybrid multicloud benefits.

The Chennai facility is designed to support the growing demand for AI and digital services in India, offering low-latency access to a robust digital ecosystem. This expansion underscores India's role as a key hub for innovation and AI investment, as the country strengthens its position in the global digital economy.
