Eolian Starts Construction on Flint Grid Battery Project in Ohio
Eolian has started construction on Flint Grid, a 200 MW, 1.06 GWh battery energy storage project near Columbus, Ohio, the company announced in a press release.
The project is located in Jersey Township, Licking County, next to New Albany data center and industrial load. Eolian said Flint Grid is the first large battery energy storage system to qualify for the capacity market operated by PJM Interconnection and the largest battery storage system to clear the 2027/28 Residual Capacity Auction.
Eolian said the project represents more than 50 percent of all new battery storage capacity in that capacity year. The company also said Flint Grid is the first grid scale battery energy storage system permitted by the Ohio Power Siting Board.
Flint Grid is expected to enter commercial operation before the 2027 to 2028 PJM capacity year.
