Elix and LINC Launch AI Drug Discovery Platform with Federated Learning

Elix and LINC have commercialized the world's first AI drug discovery platform using federated learning, incorporating data from 16 pharmaceutical companies.

Elix and Life Intelligence Consortium (LINC) have announced the commercialization of the world's first AI drug discovery platform that incorporates federated learning-based AI models, according to a press release. This platform, known as Elix Discovery™, utilizes data from 16 pharmaceutical companies to enhance drug discovery processes.

The platform addresses the challenge of data scarcity in AI drug discovery by enabling multiple companies to collaboratively develop AI models without sharing proprietary data. This is achieved through federated learning technology, which allows the training of AI models on decentralized data sources while maintaining data confidentiality.

Developed in collaboration with the Department of Biomedical Data Intelligence at Kyoto University, the federated learning library kMoL was instrumental in this initiative. The platform is expected to become a standard in AI drug discovery in Japan, with several pharmaceutical companies already adopting it.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in AI-driven drug discovery, as it is the first time such a platform has been commercialized with the participation of numerous pharmaceutical companies. The project, supported by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), aims to further expand its user base and data pool, enhancing the accuracy and usability of the AI models for all users.
