Sep 29, 2026
Instructure found that no dedicated AI tool ranked among the 100 most used tools in its analysis of Canvas activity across US higher education. Google Gemini led dedicated AI products with nearly 88,000 users at 211 institutions.

Instructure said in a press release that no dedicated AI tool ranked among the 100 most used tools in its analysis of the US higher education digital learning stack. The report covers deidentified Canvas LTI launch data from September 1, 2025, through April 30, 2026, representing nearly 19.5 million people.

Google Gemini was the most widely adopted dedicated AI tool identified, reaching nearly 88,000 users across 211 institutions. Higher education institutions averaged 28 unique LTI integrations, while individual instructors averaged four and students averaged five.

Content tools represented 27.5% of the Top 40, collaboration and video tools accounted for 25%, and student information and administrative systems made up 15%. The analysis excluded native API integrations, so some products may be undercounted.
