CSC Study Finds Legal Leaders Expect Surge in AI-Driven IP Infringement
More than nine in ten senior legal professionals are concerned about the growing threat of online intellectual property infringement, according to a press release by CSC. The company’s *IP Frontiers Report 2025* found that 85% of respondents have seen a rise in infringements over the past year, with 90% expecting more in the next twelve months.
The study attributes much of the increase to artificial intelligence, with 88% of participants saying AI-enabled systems are driving infringement activity. Nearly all respondents—93%—expressed concern that AI-generated fake assets such as logos, images, and content could harm their businesses. Common forms of infringement include counterfeiting, trademark abuse, and brand impersonation.
The report also highlights that fake domain names are often used as entry points in large-scale infringement campaigns. While 76% of organizations have domain management strategies, only 16% of legal teams have full visibility into their domain portfolios. This limited oversight leaves companies vulnerable to fraud and impersonation.
To address these risks, 67% of respondents expect significant increases in brand protection and IP enforcement budgets within three years. Over half—56%—already outsource monitoring and enforcement activities, a trend likely to grow as firms seek faster and more advanced protection mechanisms. CSC noted that proactive, multi-layered protection combining legal, IT, and security teams is becoming essential as AI accelerates the pace of infringement.
