Brineworks Secures €6.8M to Advance Direct Air Capture Technology
Brineworks, an Amsterdam-based climate tech startup, has secured €6.8 million in funding to accelerate the commercialization of its Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, announced in a press release. The funding round was led by SeaX Ventures, with participation from several other investors.
The company has also received a €1.8 million grant from the European Innovation Council to further its research and development efforts. Brineworks' technology features a patented electrolyzer that captures CO2 from the air while co-producing hydrogen, which can be used to create sustainable aviation fuels and e-methanol for shipping.
Brineworks aims to achieve CO2 capture at costs below $100 per ton, a significant milestone for the industry. The new funding will be used to scale the system to a pilot level, with commercial readiness targeted by the end of 2026.
