Bain & Company Highlights AI Talent Shortage Threatening Adoption

Bain & Company reports a significant talent gap in AI, with 44% of executives citing a lack of in-house expertise as a barrier to AI adoption.

Bain & Company has highlighted a significant challenge facing businesses in their AI adoption efforts: a widening talent gap. In a press release, Bain & Company revealed that 44% of executives identify a lack of in-house AI expertise as a major barrier to implementing generative AI technologies.

The demand for AI skills has surged by 21% annually since 2019, yet the supply of qualified candidates has not kept pace. This shortage is expected to persist through at least 2027, with varying impacts across global markets. For instance, the United States could see up to half of AI jobs unfilled by 2027, while Germany might experience a 70% shortfall in AI professionals.

Bain & Company suggests that businesses need to take proactive measures to address this talent gap. Strategies include upskilling existing teams, expanding hiring strategies, and rethinking ways to attract and retain AI talent. Without these efforts, companies may struggle to move from AI ambitions to successful implementation.
