Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 5.5 with faster output and lower task costs

Anthropic introduced Claude Sonnet 5.5 on its website, saying the model generates output more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5 and costs up to 30% less per task. It is designed for routine tasks, bug fixes and creating documents, slides and spreadsheets.

Pricing remains $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output tokens and $0.20 per million tokens for cache reads. Anthropic says lower token use accounts for the reduced cost per task.

Sonnet 5.5 scored 70.6% on Terminal Bench 4.0, compared with 10.3% for Sonnet 5. On GDPval AA, which tests work across multiple occupations, it scored 1,844, compared with 1,846 for Claude Opus 5.5 and 1,449 for Sonnet 5.

The model includes cyber safeguards similar to those used for Opus 5.5. Higher risk cybersecurity requests can fall back to Sonnet 5, while biology safeguards remain unchanged. Claude Sonnet 5.5 is available on Anthropic platforms, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, with the API identifier claude-sonnet-5-5.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
