Anthropic Commits $10 Million to Canadian AI Research Partnerships

Anthropic has announced a $10 million Canadian dollar fund to support AI research across major Canadian universities and institutes, including Mila, Amii, and the Vector Institute. The funding will promote responsible AI applications and expand access to the Claude model for research and innovation.
Anthropic Commits $10 Million to Canadian AI Research Partnerships

Anthropic has committed $10 million Canadian dollars to support research initiatives at several Canadian institutions, according to an announcement on its website. The funding targets projects in responsible and beneficial applications of artificial intelligence and will provide Claude access credits to participating researchers.

The partnerships include the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute in Edmonton, Mila in Montreal, and the Vector Institute in Toronto, along with collaborations with CHEO, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Université Laval, the University of Toronto, and the University of Saskatchewan. Each partner will apply the Claude model to research areas such as health, reinforcement learning, AI safety, sustainability, and language understanding.

Anthropic will also add Amii, Mila, and Vector to its Anthropic for Startups program, which offers AI resources to entrepreneurs building products with Claude. Hundreds of startups connected with these institutions will receive at least $5,000 USD each in API credits.

The company also shared data from its March 2026 Anthropic Economic Index, showing that Canada ranks eighth globally in Claude usage and second by the per capita adoption index. Use is highest in provinces such as British Columbia and Ontario, which have a concentration of technical and professional sectors.
