Absa Bank Cuts Credit Risk Reporting Time With SAS Viya on AWS

Absa Bank says SAS Viya on AWS reduced credit risk reporting cycles by 80% to 90%, moving model monitoring reports from weeks to hours.

Absa Bank has modernized its credit risk management reporting system with SAS Viya running on Amazon Web Services, SAS said in a press release. The bank said the system reduced reporting cycles by 80% to 90%, moving model monitoring reports from weeks to hours.

The system supports more than 500 credit risk models in Absa's retail portfolio. It replaces manual scripts and separated processes with standardized reports, dashboards, and automated execution.

Absa also reported that new model frameworks, including approvals, can now go live in less than six months, a 50% faster onboarding pace. The bank established a Center of Excellence and worked with SAS to rebuild its monitoring framework.

The implementation includes dynamic cloud resource use and an automated Insights feature in SAS Viya that provides recommendations for optimization. Absa plans to apply the same data and AI approach to other operations.
