28bio Unveils Nexon Neurotechnology Platform with Engineered Human Brains
28bio has announced the launch of its Nexon neurotechnology platform, a significant advancement in understanding human brain function. The platform, announced in a press release, integrates tissue engineering, neural interfacing, and AI to engineer human brains at scale, replicating complex neurological processes such as memory, learning, and cognition.
The Nexon platform is designed to improve the prediction of therapeutic efficacy and toxicity in humans, with several major pharmaceutical companies already incorporating it into their drug development workflows. This innovation aims to address the high failure rates in neurological drug development, which often result from the poor translatability of animal models.
Additionally, the platform incorporates Organoid Intelligence (OI), which combines human brain organoids with brain-machine interfaces to model cognitive functions in vitro. This approach offers novel functional cognitive biomarkers that could reshape drug development for neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.
