This edition covers new defense AI work across logistics, field hardware, drones and electromagnetic spectrum operations, including a research partnership between CGI Federal, the Defense Logistics Agency and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as well as launches from Durabook and Skydio.

Trump plans AI Force and AI czar role
US President Donald Trump says he will create an AI Force modeled on the Space Force and appoint an AI czar. He also posted a Truth Social poll suggesting alternative names for artificial intelligence and dismissed AI safety concerns without evidence. Read more
CGI Federal, Defense Logistics Agency and University of Tennessee partner on AI and quantum research
CGI Federal, the Defense Logistics Agency and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville will study agentic AI and quantum computing for warehouse management, reverse logistics and supply chain resilience in contested environments. The Quantum Pathfinder initiative will operate from CGI Federal's Knoxville delivery center and is expected to expand in the next fiscal year. Read more

Durabook introduces the Z14I-DX3, a rugged laptop featuring three 14 inch Full HD touchscreens, Intel Core Ultra processors with an AI Boost NPU, and optional NVIDIA graphics. Skydio launches F10 fixed wing drone, MegaDock and software platforms
Skydio introduces the F10 Lightrunner, its first fixed wing aircraft, alongside the MegaDock, Asset Command and Security Command. The drone can autonomously launch and land, reach speeds of 100 mph and operate within a 30 mile radius, with customer deployment planned for 2027. Read more
Rapta raises $8 million for AI manufacturing quality assurance
Rapta, an Oregon based company, raises $8 million to expand deployments of its AI powered Manufacturing Intelligence Platform in defense, aerospace and precision manufacturing. Voyager Capital and Access Venture Partners co led the round, and Diane Fraiman and Kirk Holland joined the board. Read more
ARCYN Defense selected for MassChallenge security program
ARCYN Defense joins the 2026 MassChallenge Security & Resiliency Traction Program. The program will support commercialization and manufacturing of its Iron Rain counter drone platform, alongside the company's existing research agreement with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Armaments Center. Read more
OpenAI and Anthropic urge UN Security Council to adopt AI safeguards
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urged the UN Security Council to establish international AI standards, safety controls and incident reporting systems. They called for cooperation to reduce AI related risks to global security and humanity. Read more
US military halted interception after false AI report on Chinese ship
A US Special Operations Command analyst used an AI chatbot to assess intelligence on a Chinese ship in the Middle East. The resulting false claim that it carried nuclear weapons components led to planned armed interception, which officials stopped after identifying the error. Read more
United States and China agree on AI incident channel
The United States and China agree to establish a communication channel for AI related incidents following talks in Washington. The countries will also hold an AI dialogue in November and expand military crisis communications. Read more
Permuta Technologies publishes paper on government AI data fusion risks
Permuta Technologies publishes a whitepaper warning that safeguards such as permissions and audit logs may not address risks created when AI systems combine sensitive data across government agencies. The paper calls for architectural separation, exit mechanisms and assessments of data concentration risk. Read more
Xtremis wins Defense Innovation Unit Spectrum Strike challenge
Xtremis won the Defense Innovation Unit Spectrum Strike Prize Challenge for its spectrumOS platform. The system uses AI, automation and radio frequency data to support military spectrum planning and conflict detection. Read more
US Treasury proposes US China AI safety alert mechanism
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the United States proposed a mechanism to notify China of AI incidents that could affect national security. The proposal was discussed with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng ahead of a planned Trump and Xi summit, while advanced AI chip export controls were excluded from the talks. Read more
