X8 Cloud Infrastructure to Build AI Data Center in Paraguay Using Hydroelectric Power
X8 Cloud Infrastructure has announced plans to build a significant artificial intelligence and cloud services data center complex in Paraguay, according to Data Center Dynamics. The facility will utilize hydroelectric power from the Itaipu Dam, one of the world's largest, located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay.
The project, situated near Asunción, is set to become the largest AI infrastructure in Latin America. It aims to provide regional access to high-performance AI computing at up to a 70% lower cost. Initial operations are scheduled to begin in early 2026 with a capacity of 50MW, expanding to 500MW by 2027.
X8 Cloud Infrastructure, a Los Angeles-based startup, seeks to revolutionize data center operations by focusing on sustainability. The company's CEO, Juan Carlos Dueñas, highlighted the project's potential to offer Brazilian companies AI infrastructure under US jurisdiction, adhering to Brazilian data protection rules and governance standards.
